EU “BIG SIX”

French President Nicolas Sarkozy seems to understand the new EU Treaty Referendum as a way to create an elite army.  This "hard core" group would consist of France, Germany, the UK, Spain, Poland and Italy, these countries would commit to boosting their military spending to 2% of GDP and carry out combined security and intelligence tasks.

The provision within the Treaty allows for a "permanent structured co-operation" among states to legalize military projects.  The French and Dutch voters rejected this referendum in 2005.  They are not allowed to vote this time as all other European countries, with the exception of Ireland, have usurped the people’s power to have a say in the Lisbon Treaty.

Sarkozy feels confident that the Treaty will be passed and plans are underway to initiate this program in 2009 according to Lucia Kubosova at the EU Observer.

  1. Hmmm. Do I like it? No. Does it make sense in the context of the world today? Possibly. It’d be great if the nice fellas at Steorn had in fact discovered free energy and we could benevolently hand it out to the world and calmly forget oil ever existed. Or even for all of us to get together and agree that, really, the whole medieval lifestyle was pretty cool so we don’t need oil. But neither is going to happen anytime soon, and while the big players square up to each other Europe may as well be in a position to hold it’s own. Sadly.

  2. The only “free” energy we ever had was the sun, I suspect that was never exploited because once set up there were no ongoing profits to be made.

  3. Ireland MUST vote ‘No’
Ireland is the only country in the European Union to be allowed a vote on the new treaty/constitution.
To the voters of Ireland: Regardless of whether you are in favour of the treaty or not, you have an obligation to vote ‘NO’ to protest at the anti-democratic behaviour of the EU leaders.
489 million EU ‘citizens’ have been denied a vote on this issue. If you believe in democracy, you must vote against the treaty and force the EU to rethink their arrogant attitude to the people.
In 2005 France and Holland were allowed votes and rejected the previous version of the treaty. In order to stop them rejecting it again, the EU leaders have simply decided to deny them a vote at all! Are you really going to condone this abysmal behaviour by voting ‘yes’?
So please, Ireland, remember that you are voting on behalf of every other person denied a basic democratic right. Vote‘No’ to the EU treaty/constitution.
