Bottom Line on Lisbon
What is all the fuss about? What is there to know about the Lisbon Treaty referendum? The answer to this Euro-riddle is as plain as Irish stew! And for all the eejits out there having a great auld chinwagging session on the pros and cons of our future economy, neutrality, or our small voice in the greater European scheme of things answer me this one question will ya?
Why, if voting yes for this treaty will make the EU 27 a more democratic union, are they not allowing all citizens to vote in a democratic electoral process throughout the member States? If this passes in June do you think they will ever allow us to vote on anything again? Why should they? For Heaven’s Sake people wake the feck up will ya?
Only a flock of bloody sheep would vote yes for this shite. Off ya go!

“A nation of sheep begets a government of wolves” Edward R. Murrow
Should have that on billboards around the country

Good one TC!

Cao - (my sarcastic comment - please take it literally) the reality of the situation is that EU politicians are a professional highly paid class, and they are paid well so they DO NOT have to take BRIBES to make a living befitting their class - much like EU governments are parliaments and the courts are staffed by professional jurists not common people, because in the EU common people are considered an uneducated rabble whereas in the States defendants can have a jury of their peers voted in by the states attorney who wants uneducated, unemployed, and old people to play with and deceive to help win their cases, The American states attorney who has many favorable prosecutions can then run for political office and really screw the people and make big money on payoffs and bribes while ruining the country!
Comment by EuroYank — April 17, 2008 @ 6:28 pm
Hey Euro! How are ya? States Attorney’s here in Ireland are called the DPP, Director’s of Public Prosecution, in this free and open democracy we are not even allowed to know who these people are! At least the US Attorney’s can be voted out if they screw up.
The secrecies within the EU political framework are worse, what once started out to be a trade and cultural exchange idea has blossomed into a secret super state, wtf?
Did you see the video? Unbelievable law making process eh?
Comment by Cao — April 17, 2008 @ 6:46 pm
Cao - yes it is sickening but look at the bright side … what you do not know cannot hurt you, and besides I agree with your points but both systems are the same only in reverse. How many people have faith in the process? I do not know about Ireland, but in the States only about 25% bother to vote and these are the people that have the most to gain from the party elected, and in reality there really is no major difference between political parties in the States, they all get their money and finances from the same sources and the same big money capitalists. I mean you may say potato and I say potatoe, but what is the big difference?
Comment by EuroYank — April 17, 2008 @ 6:58 pm
Point well taken, at least with the American system you can see who makes the laws and they seem more transparent than the European model.
“What you do not know cannot hurt you”, your sarcasm cracks me up Euro! Did you take social commentary lessons from George Carlin by any chance?
Comment by Cao — April 17, 2008 @ 7:14 pm
Cao - its one of the reasons I was required to flee to Europe as a political refugee. My sarcasm also cracked up a lot of people over there. You know that song don’t you “Over There …?” but this time it really means OVER THERE not over HERE!
(By the way, maybe we can turn your blog into a chat blog instead of commentary!)
Comment by EuroYank — April 17, 2008 @ 7:20 pm
It’s not often I am online when people happen to drop by to leave a comment much less a chat!
Speaking of which, when are you going to host a live BlogTalk radio program?
Comment by Administrator — April 17, 2008 @ 7:35 pm
Dear Cao (Administrator) because of my enlightened political views and educational blogs, I must remain UNDERCOVER, because the Matrix is always evolving, and in order to fight the good fight against the New World Order, talk blog radio would greatly enhance my reputation and bring unwanted fame to my person, hence I will leave you the honors, because you and I are the same only opposite!
Comment by EuroYank — April 17, 2008 @ 7:42 pm
Well, an Undercover Radio Show from the bowels of Europe may be just what the public is craving for! You would be a popular host and you would also be a hit, instead of a hitman, metaphorically speaking of course….
Comment by Cao — April 17, 2008 @ 7:48 pm
Cao - your educational use of metaphors cracks me up metaphorically speaking!

I personally like Tomato vs. Tomatoe!
The color is more appropriate. In former Soviet Union, you do not even get a court hearing. The would just line you up against the wall, and give you a 9 rifle salute.
Hey no matter where the F you are, justice is blind. So just close your eyes and Die!

Hey Igor the Troll, you’d be a frequent caller on Euro’s BlogTalk radio show wouldn’t ya? Sure you would!

Excellent link TC! Very good indeed!
There is another quote that comes to mind, since you offered one earlier, I will offer this: “Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.” -Aldous Huxley
Comment by Cao — April 17, 2008 @ 8:43 pm
Cao - I prefer to tell Igor the Troll … Igor do not let the facts get in your way, and better yet Igor … let yourself get in your way so the facts can get out! (just a joke Igor nothing personal ha ha ha)
Comment by EuroYank — April 17, 2008 @ 9:49 pm
Euro, good point. I do have a supper ego, but at the end of the day it is not what motivates me. So don’t let my flamboyance disillusion you about my intent, which is to shine a light on the future.

All I can add to this debate is Baa..aa..aa..aa!

Hi Steph! We’ll all be singing that song if Ireland passes the referendum.

Hey Cao, I just got through watching that video about the Lisbon Treaty, and I find that Jens-Peter Bonde, Danish MEP said it well, they made it so difficult to read, that you might need a map to find your way. He was speaking about the font, and the spacing of it, so it is unreadable. The Treaty at a glance looks all fine and good, but like you said, “are they not allowing all citizens to vote in a democratic electoral process throughout the member States? If this passes in June do you think they will ever allow us to vote on anything again?” Well, it doesn’t sound like it, from something else I found: How We Are Organized: Well, where are the normal people? Like you show a picture of, they are the sheep, which normally have a shepherd, and a dog to boot, to move them about!
Well, I guess that Parliament is the Shepard, and I am not sure just who the dog is.
Maybe that one odd person from Parliament….who the heck knows.
Like ThriftCriminal says,
“A nation of sheep begets a government of wolves” Edward R. Murrow. Well, so true!
Now I must confess, I don’t really know much about this, however, unlike others, it only takes a little time to read what is already there. We here in the US do get a vote, but does it REALLY count…hmmm, I am not sure at all. The “Powers To Be”, it seems, make sure, that most of the time it doesn’t. As Euro Yank, and I know he knows his figures, “only about 25% bother to vote and these are the people that have the most to gain from the party elected…”
Maybe they don’t bother to vote, because some realize that it doesn’t count most of the time anyways. Or some are so ignorant, that they have no idea what to vote.
Like you said, Cao, it is “as plain as Irish Stew“.
Well, I guess I had my say, not sure if it is a good say, but it is a say!
Comment by Skye B. — April 19, 2008 @ 8:36 pm
Hello Skye! and thank you for the comment and all the links, brilliant! Now that I’ve seen the recipe for the stew I am starving!

Ha!
“FECK” - ooo, I loved that!
I’m sorry, but I haven’t been following EU finances of late (vacation), so I can bring no enlightenment to your blog about that subject. Lord knows, I can barely keep track of all our own crap pertaining to money here in the US anymore!
But Irish stew sounds just lovely right now! I’m very hungry!
=)
Comment by kimbathewhitelioness — April 20, 2008 @ 9:56 pm
Hi Kim!
Good to see ya, how was the vacation? We’re having a bit of scandal over here concerning the European Union Super State and their un-democratic policies, nothing to worry about except freedom!

Caoimhin,
You posted a question on my blog, but I could not find where with reasonable care, so I try here (limited to what I guess and can remember without search).
I am not sure if I know what you were asking for, but my guess would be the following:
The European Parliament voted on a report concerning the Treaty of Lisbon, from the Constitutional Affairs Committee and co-authored by Méndez de Vigo and Corbett.
Opponents to the Lisbon Treaty tabled an amendment (30 something) demanding respect for the Irish referendum outcome. Predictably it was voted down, as oppistion moves usually are, but British anti-EU bloggers naturally used the vote to propagate the message that the European Parliament does not respect the will of the people, as opposition groups tend to do.
My memory would put these events (one or) two months back in time.
If you want official records, you would have to look up the EP voting record (and report). If you are interested in the fuss, you could try searching the anti-EU (’Eurosceptic’) British blogs, which tend to replicate each other.
Comment by Ralf Grahn — April 22, 2008 @ 8:31 am
Thank you Ralf for your help and advice on my question about Amendment 32 - The Corbett Report! I am very interested in all the fuss but I am trying to get to the original documentation and description of this article. As you say there is a lot of replication on the blogs; but, none of them link to the origin. Even the EU sites do not have this Amendment listed, there are however records of who and how the members voted, but no complete description of what they voted on. Thank you again for your help!
